RAINN seeks research interns to support its Research & Evaluation Department in their efforts to inform and improve RAINN's services. Using anonymous data, our work traverses the National Sexual Assault Hotline and the Department of Defense Safe Helpline. Successful candidates would gain applied research experience and build expertise in the area of sexual violence and delivery of hotline services to victims. This position will start on September 9, 2019 in RAINN's Washington, D.C. offices.

General Responsibilities

To the extent possible, duties will be commensurate with interns' skills and individual professional development goals. Internship activities may include:

  • Analyzing feedback from hotline users, including quantitative and qualitative data 
  • Assisting in data quality assurance 
  • Conducting recoding of open-ended qualitative data
  • Assisting with evaluation reports, graphics, and presentations
  • Contributing to training that will enhance the quality of evaluation data
  • Conducting literature searches.

Both undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in the area of sexual violence are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pass a criminal background check (administered by RAINN)
  • Possess strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Completed at least one undergraduate statistics and/or research methods course
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and SPSS (other statistical software experience will be considered)

Internship Requirements

This is a part-time, unpaid internship. Interns must be able to dedicate a minimum of 15 hours per week for two semesters (preferred). If only one semester is available,  20 hours per week is requested.
