RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct applied research, continuous quality improvement and evaluation of services for survivors and their loved ones. As a key member of RAINN's Research and Evaluation team, the postdoctoral associate will support development and evaluation of services funded by the DOJ's Office for Victims of Crime. The successful candidate will help to strengthen the provision of live, one-on-one support, crisis intervention, and information for sexual assault survivors.  More broadly, the postdoc associate will support research that helps to fill the research-practice gap in victim services and leverage existing data to inform the field of victim services. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support RAINN's research and evaluation activities as follows:

  • Use anonymous data from the National Sexual Assault Hotline (NSAH) to examine survivors' needs and services provided  
  • Communicate findings to staff, public, and scientific audiences 
  • Prepare findings for publication in social science peer-review journals
  • Prepare research and evaluation protocols for Institutional Review Board approval 
  • Examine user characteristics in relation to mobile app engagement, and recommend ways to enhance engagement and utility of app
  • Recommend evidence-based enhancements to victim services, informed by current research in mental health services and NSAH findings  

Position Specifications/Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required:

  • Experience in victimology and/or victim services research 
  • Four or more years of experience in database management using SPSS; experience in Mplus desired
  • Experience creating graphics for data visualization 
  • Minimum four graduate-level courses in statistics and research methods
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Excellent English-language communication skills (oral and written)
  • Work on-site at RAINN's office and to attend meetings as required
  • Comfortable discussing issues surrounding sexual violence.
  • Specialized knowledge relevant to victim services
  • PhD in social sciences (e.g., psychology, public health, social work) or related field required
  • Expertise in m-Health a plus

  • Must have vision correctable to a level where individual can operate a computer; visualize text on a computer monitor.
