As a key member of the victim services team, the Training and Curriculum and Design Manager will support the victim services and training team by ensuring that all written and design content for self-paced and online blended training modules, training materials, and ongoing training materials for RAINN victim services staff, volunteers, and DoD Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) meet project expectations, is completed on time and within the budget, and meets Section 508 standards. This position will review and provide edits for training content to ensure delivery of high quality tailored final products and ensure the development of a world class training portfolio for staff and volunteers to support survivors of sexual assault and their loved ones.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Writing and Designing

  • Review instructional materials including assessments and quizzes, practice exercises with appropriate feedback, simulations, demonstrations, case studies, worked examples, procedural steps, descriptions of concepts/processes/principles, opportunities for reflection and self-explanation, and overviews to ensure that they meet project needs and align with adult learning principles.
  • Review and provide edits to training materials for content, clarity, consistency, grammar, format, organization, and instructional efficacy.
  • Review and ensure that all training materials developed to included:
    • Incorporating input from and the perspective of key stakeholders within the Victim Services Department.
    • Compliance with all federal regulations and guidelines and adherence to internal and client standards.
    • Critical thinking about cultural diversity to include race, gender, ethnicity, nation and nationhood, class, and religion and their intersections.
  • Lead content strategy and content layout for each training deliverable to ensure consistency and clarity in message.
  • Lead and develop up to 50% of curricula for e-learning training products for both self-paced and live learning, that are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Work across RAINN to support the development of training materials for grant deliverables.

Recruiting and Managing

  • Develop work plans for and supervise instructional design contractors to ensure the development and delivery of effective and engaging instructional content.
  • Manage work of the Sr. and Jr. Curriculum Content Developers in developing curricula training products and ensure that they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Recruit, hire and onboard instructional designers to meet project needs each fiscal year to meet training needs.

Learning and Maintaining Expertise

  • Maintain and expertise in training staff to provide services to victims of sexual violence. Training and services must be research-based and consistent with best practices in the fields of crisis intervention and sexual violence prevention and response.
  • Identify health/wellness and crisis response related topics related to sexual violence to be included in long range curriculum development goals.
  • Maintain an understanding of the operational structure of the hotlines, and how training best supports that structure.
  • Maintain an understanding of service delivery on the hotlines.

Strategic Planning

  • Work with training team staff on informational architecture, content strategy, and content layout for each training module.
  • Ensure that training for hotline staff and volunteers are designed to account for the operational needs of the hotlines.
  • Maintain clear and organized records of deliverables.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication between stakeholders to ensure feedback is gathered and incorporated in a timely manner.
  • Create process documentation on aspects of the curriculum development process as needed.
  • Use data on learning needs and progress reports to collaborate with the Training Director to plan for Advanced and Leadership levels of curriculum for RAINN staff and volunteers.
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of professional experience in curriculum development, training/education, and writing course content.
  • 2+ years experience in the field of social services, or crisis hotline/intervention experience.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a project management role, with an ability to establish and document processes, and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with project management tools, including log frames and GANTT charts.
  • Experience managing the development of training materials from start to finish ensuring that content is high quality and design choices are appropriate and engaging.
  • Experience implementing educational learning theories and principles in combination with user-centered methods when developing content or tools for web and print.
  • Experience editing instructional training content that conforms to stated learning objectives.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing e-learning that is accessible to people with disabilities, diverse educational levels and experience with technology, those for whom English is not a first language, and more.
  • Experience developing content for audiences with limited crisis support experience into plain language.
  • Familiarity with federal plain language guidelines and best practices.
  • Experience executing high-level editing and writing with limited supervision.
  • Strong grammar skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to confidently make independent editorial decisions and be responsible for assigned tasks and work products.
  • Must feel comfortable providing and receiving constructive feedback to and from a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work both independently, as a member of highly integrated teams, and as part of a large Victim Services Department.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have the ability to proactively resolve issues in a diplomatic, flexible, and constructive manner.
  • Provide 'all-hands-on-deck" support to the training team as needed.
  • Must be comfortable discussing issues surrounding sexual violence.
  • Must be able to attend meetings and trainings on-site as required.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check (administered by RAINN).


  • Master's degree in education, communications, public health, social service, or a related field.
  • Previous education/training or certification on sexual violence issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Veterans will be given a priority
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish
  • Proven experience developing content for comprehensive anti-sexual violence trainings.
  • Experience in the fields of social work, health education, workforce development and/or social justice or human rights.
  • Sexual Assault Advocate/Counselor Training (SAACT)
  • DoD Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SAACP)
