As a key member of RAINN's Victim Services management team, the Director, Safe Helpline Strategic Planning and Collaboration will be responsible for communicating the program vision and goals to the stakeholders. The director will provide direct supervision and oversee regular audits of training, policies, and internal evaluations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages a team for the Safe Helpline Communications;
    • Safe Helpline Marketing and Communications Coordinator
    • Safe Helpline Senior Quality Assurance Manager
    • Safe Helpline Programmatic Project Manager
    • Safe Helpline Communications Program Manager
    • Communications Coordinator
  • Lead strategic planning for the long-term evolution of Safe Helpline communications in consultation with the VPs of Communications and Victim Services.
  • Lead the development of annual communication, marketing, and advertising plans, as well as more specific campaigns.
  • Develop proposals for, plan, and execute special projects on behalf of the Safe Helpline team, working across the Communications and Victim Services teams.
  • Conduct research and data analysis to inform communications and marketing projects on behalf of the Safe Helpline, including stakeholder research.
  • Oversee strategic work on behalf of the Safe Helpline Communications team to ensure messages reach targeted audiences, conducting regular audits of Safe Helpline communications materials and planning future projects to ensure messages and services are accessible, equitable, and not creating additional barriers.
  • Develop and execute internal evaluation processes for communications and marketing efforts.
  • Identify and cultivate new relationships with leadership on DoD bases and installations, VA entities, and relevant civilian organizations.
  • Create, conduct, and deliver specialized briefings on Safe helpline services and initiatives at events and conferences worldwide.
  • Deliver standard briefings to stakeholders worldwide (responsible for executing Safe Helpline travel plan).
  • Act as a lead reviewer for programmatic reports from the research team.
  • Develop and maintain communications manuals for the Safe Helpline with input from relevant stakeholders (such as building out internal style guidelines).
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts for the Safe Helpline Communications team through annual goal-setting and daily works.
  • Oversee regular audits of training policies and other documents.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of DoD SAPRO and other military sexual assault policies, protocols, related laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrate specialized Safe Helpline knowledge and sexual assault victim services skills.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and respond after hours as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Specifications/Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work/human services or equivalent work experience.
  • Three years required of grant writing and management experience or membership/ foundation relations work.
  • Proven track record in grant writing including but not limited to private and foundations, federal grants and funding requests.
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communications skills (written and verbal).
  • Comfort building relationships and working with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to prepare reports and correspondence and pull inferences from written material for key stakeholders.
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word).
  • Proven champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in a professional environment.
  • Culturally competent and able to work with diverse populations.
  • RAINN is currently remote due to Covid-19 however must be able to work on-site at RAINN's office and attend meetings as required.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check (administered by RAINN).
  • Upon hire, must provide proof of vaccine (Covid-19).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Veterans: those with Dept. of Veterans Affairs or VA MST Coordinator experience will be given priority.
  • Crisis hotline/intervention experience.
  • Experience with military populations.
  • Experience with online communications platforms (i.e., instance messenger, etc.).
  • Experience with relationship building and fostering collaboration among diverse
  • Experience in labor relations, which includes management of grievances and participation in arbitration/negotiation.
  • Proven track record of success in building, implementing and managing a complex team of service professionals through change management and/or growth strategies.


The position is based in Washington, DC. Please note that RAINN staff are currently working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
