Director of Institutional Giving

RAINN, the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization, created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline and more than 30 hotlines on behalf of partner organizations, including the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN leads programs to prevent sexual violence, educates the public, ensures that perpetrators are brought to justice, and helps organizations improve their practices to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct.

RAINN seeks a Director of Institutional Giving to develop a sustainable and growing source of revenue through institutional, corporate, and private foundations, government grants and contracts, and forge new relationships with funders to expand the pipeline of support. The Director will report to the Chief Development Officer and will manage all institutional partnerships through entire grant lifecycle from letters of inquiry, working with RAINN leadership, writing/editing, proposal submission tracking, and stewarding relationships. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and working with the Grants Manager, this person will serve as the central point of contact across departments. The Director of Institutional Giving has duties that include but are not limited to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Grants Manager.
  • Maintain, create, and build strong relationships with historical, new, and potential funding partners. Responsible for managing a portfolio of 100+ active foundation and corporate donors and prospects annually.
  • Responsible for writing government grant applications, researching new government grant opportunities and writing reports and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain a master grant application calendar for all grant requests, prospects, and reports which will be maintained by the Grants Manager.
  • Build and advance a cumulative pipeline of prospects for growth, budget planning, and donor trends.
  • Set, track, and meet established metrics as outlined in the annual development plan.
  • Ensure timely and accurate written and statistical impact reports to leadership and funders as requested and monitor grant budgets and expenditures.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation to support grant expenses and programmatic deliverables in conjunction with President/CEO, VP of Victim Services, Director of Research and Evaluation, and Finance.
  • Work with appropriate departments to gather data and produce accurate, complete, and prompt grant reports while ensuring that proper records are maintained.
  • Establish cross-departmental collaboration with leadership and all appropriate internal staff to ensure clear understanding of development needs and build concept opportunities for future funding.
  • Conducting prospect research through the Foundation Center and other resources as well as IWave.
  • Serve as point of contact for new and existing corporate foundation partnerships to build and grow RAINN's Corporate Partners Program.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least ten years of institutional experience with five years required of management experience.
  • Proven track record in grant writing including but not limited to foundations, federal grants, and corporate partnership proposals.
  • Proven history of securing six and seven-figure grants.
  • Experience in corporate fundraising, including partnership development.
  • Excellent written communications skills and an ability to convey programmatic opportunities and objectives.
  • Exceptional organization attention to detail.
  • Comfort building relationships and working with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of grants and grant administration systems, processes and budgeting and prospect research.
  • Ability to prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word).
  • Experience with EveryAction preferred.
  • Upon hire must provide proof of vaccine (COVID-19).
  • Must complete a criminal background check (administered by RAINN).
