Director of Individual Giving

RAINN, the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization, created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline and more than 30 hotlines on behalf of partner organizations, including the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN leads programs to prevent sexual violence, educates the public, ensures that perpetrators are brought to justice, and helps organizations improve their practices to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct.

RAINN seeks a Director of Individual Giving who will have primary responsibility for leading the organization's annual giving efforts, setting strategy and executing fundraising plans for sustaining and growing the number of annual donors giving under $5k, the size of individual donations, and the conversion of annual donors to future major donors.

The Director of Institutional Giving has duties that include but are not limited to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create, manage and implement the individual giving strategy designed to increase the number of donors giving under $5k through direct marketing, Google Grants management, social media, telemarketing, SMS, peer to peer fundraising, federal and state employee campaigns and other outreach methods
  • Manage the direct marketing agency including working with a cross-functional team staffed with members of Policy, Communications and Consulting to ensure they are represented in direct marketing efforts using advocacy and other methods to cultivate prospects and turn them into donors.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of all campaigns for effectiveness looking at ROI, lifetime value of donors and retention rates.
  • Create specific plans for donor acquisition, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Manage all marketing collateral including brochures, promotional items, annual reports
  • Manage the Senior Manager of Data and Analytics to analyze donor data in Every Action including tracking and reporting on acquisition, upgrades and retention and adapting future appeals based on learnings and manage the donor database to ensure effectiveness of reporting and data hygiene
  • Manage the acknowledgment process ensuring that acknowledgments go out on a timely basis for all donors under $5k and look for ways to streamline the acknowledgment process while ensuring donors feel properly thanked
  • Research, test and implement new fundraising methodologies
  • Manage forecasting and budget for the department working with the other directors to forecast and analyze revenue
  • Implement strategies to build a more robust mid-level donor program including making personal calls to cultivate, solicit and steward donors
  • Manage the Development Associate to ensure all donor calls and emails for the department are responded to in a timely basis and that prospect research is done for the department
  • Work with the Volunteer Management Dept. to encourage the philanthropic participation of current volunteers
  • Manage state fundraising registrations with the outside agency
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations with finance to ensure correct reporting
  • Manage two direct reports: Senior Manager of Data and Analytics and the Development Associate.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least ten years of direct marketing experience with five years required of management experience.
  • Proven track record of raising revenue through direct marketing.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and an ability to convey programmatic opportunities and objectives.
  • Exceptional organization attention to detail.
  • Three years of experience in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Comfort building relationships and working with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word).
  • Experience with EveryAction preferred.
  • Upon hire must provide proof of vaccine (COVID-19).
  • Must complete a criminal background check (administered by RAINN).
