The vice president of development will lead all fundraising programs and serve as a key member of RAINN's leadership team.  This person will be responsible for expanding RAINN's donor base and prospect pipeline to secure funding for current and new programs.  A successful candidate will have broad experience managing development programs and staff, with an emphasis on major donor development and online fundraising.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive development strategy to increase funding from major donors, small donors, foundations and corporations.
  • Lead a small team of development professionals and position the department for future growth.  Mentor and develop staff.
  • Establish performance measures and monitor results to evaluate the effectiveness of the organziation's fund development program.
  • Manage relationships with current donors and board members and identify and cultivate new supporters.
  • Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing programs and future growth; cultivate existing relationships and develop new funder relationships.
  • Provide oversight and direction of day-to-day operations of the organziation's development function.  Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws and ethical codes of conduct and maintain accountability standards to donors.
  • Appropriately represent the organziation to donors, prospects, fundraising volunteers and the general public.
  • Manage relationships with partner organizations.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership team on cross-program activities.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continous improvement that values a commitment to quality.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Specific Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

Desired Experience and Expertise:

  • At least ten years experience in a senior development role, including substantial experience managing a development department.
  • Proven abililty to develop and manage both long-term strategic fundraising plans and concrete annual plans.
  • Demonstrated success in major donor fundraising, from identification to cultivation to solicitation to stewardship.
  • From online fundraising to managing our CRM, technology is key to our development work.  The ideal candidate should be comfortable and experienced in a technology sophisticated environment.
  • Proven success developing or growing an online giving program.
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct reports and peers.  This includes a track record of effectively leading a development team and mentoring team members.
  • History of leading a performance-based/outcome-based program and staff.
  • Strong attention to detail plus solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel as necessary (approximately 20%).
  • Must be pass a criminal background check (administered by RAINN)

Desired Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • CFRE is preferred.
