The Policy Associate assists with and, as assigned, oversees aspects of RAINN's policy development, government relations and advocacy efforts.  RAINN is the largest anti-sexual violence organization.


  • Support lobbying efforts for appropriations and anti-crime issues.
  • Act as liaison with congressional offices; state policy makers; and government agencies and offices;
  • Attend/monitor government coalition meetings.
  • Conduct research to support responses to informational and resource requests, including media inquiries to support RAINN's communications department.
  • In coordination with others, update RAINN's state law databases.
  • Write and update materials, including fact sheets and newsletter articles, as assigned.
  • Perform research on issues with relevance to sexual violence.
  • Prepare meeting materials and research.
  • Propose and research new and emerging issues for the policy department's focus and spearhead the drafting of related website content and materials.
  • Support the public policy department by developing and maintaining a database of key contacts.
  • Plan and execute, with support from VP of public policy, semi-annual community education events such as brown bag lunches and round tables.
  • Support the public policy department by developing and maintaining a database of key contacts.
  • Assist in building state-level and grassroots support for priority issues.
  • Support submission of, in coordination with VP of public policy, Lobby Disclosure Act filings.
  • Provide routine updates on congressional schedules and events.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum three years of legislative or similar experience.
  • Excellent legal research and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required; law degree preferred.
  • Proven success in policy development and advocacy.
  • Commitment to RAINN's mission and goals.
  • Must pass a criminal background check (administered by RAINN).
