Research Assistant

RAINN seeks a Research Assistant to support ongoing evaluation and analysis of support services for both the National Sexual Assault Hotline and DoD Safe Helpline. These services provide live, one-on-one support, crisis intervention, and information affected by sexual assault. The successful candidate will build expertise and gain applied research experience in victim services for sexual assault survivors. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support the Victim Services team in evaluation and research activities as follows:

  • Assist with updating assessment tools (both user- and staff- provided data).
  • Conduct qualitative data analysis (coding of open-ended comments).
  • Draft sections of reports (e.g., descriptive analyses, data tables, and graphics).
  • Assist in database management, codebook preparation.
  • Conduct literature reviews to support hotline assessment content and services. 

 

Position Specifications/ Requirements 

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required:

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of experience in database management using SPSS.
  • Experience creating graphics for data visualization.
  • Strong technical writing skills. 
  • Must possess excellent English0language communication skills (oral and written).
  • Must be able to work on-site at RAINN's office and to attend meetings as required.
  • Must be comfortable discussing issues surrounding sexual violence.
  • Must complete a criminal background check (administered by RAINN).
  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences (e.g., psychology, criminology).
  • Prior coursework in statistics and research methods. 

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Over two years of experience managing data for social science research, including and creating/maintaining SPSS syntax and merging data files.
  • Experience creating research protocols and codebooks for social science research.
  • Specialized knowledge relevant to victim services.
  • Specialized knowledge relevant to Safe Helpline (i.e., military sexual assault response and prevention) and/or experience with military populations.
  • Research-based Master's degree in the social sciences.
