Research and Evaluation Associate

RAINN seeks a Research Associate to support ongoing evaluation and analysis of support services for both the National Sexual Assault Hotline and DoD Safe Helpline. These services provide live, one-on-one support, crisis intervention, and information for individuals affected by sexual assault. The Associate will conduct ongoing analysis of multiple data sources to inform the implementation and design of a secure, moderated chat room for online hotline visitors. The successful candidate will build expertise and gain applied research experience in victim services for sexual assault survivors. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support RAINN's research and evaluation activities as follows:

  • Ongoing analysis of HelpRoom services, to inform the provision and training of services
  • Examine usage patterns via quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Prepare data for analysis, including merging, aggregating, and restructuring data
  • Oversee maintenance of and updates to assessment tools, including syntax documentation and codebook preparation
  • Collaborate on development of system to examine staff coding reliabilities
  • Identify areas for improving staff training on assessment
  • Develop data visualization and new report content for both internal and external audiences

Position Specifications/ Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required:

 

Required Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in database management using SPSS
  • Proficiency with syntax files for variable creation and coding
  • Experience creating graphics for data visualization 
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Excellence English-language communication skills (oral and written)
  • Work on-site at RAINN's office and to attend meetings as required
  • Comfortable discussing issues surrounding sexual violence
  • Complete a criminal background check (administered by RAINN)
  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences (e.g., psychology, public health, social work) or related field
  • Minimum three courses in statistics and research methods

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience managing data for social science research
  • Experience independently applying econometric analyses and other advanced statistical analyses
  • Experience creating research protocols and codebooks for social science research
  • Experience measuring and monitoring inter-rater reliability in coding for social science research
  • Specialized knowledge relevant to victim services
  • Research-based Master's degree in the social sciences or related field
